    Make Your Own Whitewash Furniture

whitewash furniture has grown steadily in popularity over the years. At the moment it is enjoying a period of rapid growth in popularity and many pieces are selling for a great deal of money. There are places that you can buy high quality white furniture such as beds and bedside tables for good a good price, but if you want to make your own here is how.

1.Firstly you need to take the item of furniture you want whitewashing and sand it down. A sanding block or electrical sander should be suitable to do this but you might need to strip it chemically if there is a thick build up of paint on the piece. Now remove all sawdust and other dirst by wiping it down with a wet cloth. wait patiently for the item to dry

2.Next find a container and mix two parts white paint (ideally latex paint) with one part water. You’ll need a bowl of clean water to correct any mistakes you make and a 3″ brush. Use long careful sweeping brush strokes and go with the grain when painting. because the paint is watery, the wood will soak it up so you need to make sure you go over each patch well.

3.When the piece is completely covered and still damp, wipe over it with a clean cloth until the grain starts to show through again. This is give the wood a light stain look but if you want a deeper more expensive look, just repeat the previous steps as many times as you like, four should do it though.

4.When you get the look you are after, sand the wood again (gently this time) to expose the grain and then using a clear satin polyurethane, seal the piece. Let the product dry again, rub over it gently but thoroughly with a nylon abrasive pad and then repeat this last step as many times as needed to get the right look. Use this method to create a great white wardrobes, bedside table or even dresser.
